We’re deeply grateful for your interest in Copps Literary Services. This past year, the agency has received nearly 6,000 (!!) queries through Query Tracker. This sheer volume speaks to the vibrant writing community, but it’s made it difficult to achieve our goal of ensuring that each query receives proper consideration while maintaining timely communication.

Effective immediately, we are transitioning to a quarterly submission schedule:

  • Open submission periods will be limited to the first two weeks of January, April, July, and October

  • This replaces our previous monthly schedule (first week of each month)

If you are waiting for a response to a query submitted between January and April, please don’t panic. Current submissions in our queue will still be reviewed per usual.

Thank you for your understanding and patience during this transition. We forward to continuing to discover exceptional new voices during our upcoming submission windows.

Fiction:

We represent a wide range of genres and subgenres under the adult, YA, and middle grade umbrellas. For individual wish lists, visit our Team page.

  • Horror & speculative (adult, YA, and middle grade)

  • Romance (adult and YA)

  • Sci-fi + fantasy (adult, YA, and middle grade)

  • Commercial and upmarket suspense, thriller, mystery, women’s fiction, and book club fiction

Nonfiction:

  • Platform-driven projects in the social sciences

  • Narrative history

  • True crime

At this time, we are not looking to represent:

  • Poetry

  • Screenplays

How to submit your work.

Thank you for your interest in submitting to Copps Literary Services.
We’re eager to learn more about you and your work. Before submitting, please review the following guidelines.

  1. Choose your agent.

To allow us to give your project the consideration it deserves, please do not submit simultaneously to more than one CLS agent. You can learn more about what we’re looking for on the Our Team page.

  2. Compile your submission materials.

    For Fiction:

    • Submit only finished, polished novels.

    • Include an attention-grabbing query letter that includes word count, genre, comparative titles, and writing credentials.

    For Non-Fiction:

    • Submit a complete non-fiction proposal including a chapter outline, author credentials, positioning and market considerations, comparative titles, and 2-4 sample chapters.

    For All Submissions:

    • Remember: first impressions matter! Take the time to proofread your work and make sure your submission materials are properly formatted (Times New Roman, 12pt, double-spaced).

    • Please only submit one project at a time.

    • Please only submit to one agent at a time. If we love your work but don’t feel it is a fit for us, we’ll share it with colleagues.

  3. Submit.

When ready, submit to us. You can find our Query Manager links under our bios on the Our Team page.

If you receive an offer of representation from another agency while your query is under consideration with CLS, please email us
